Viral Sphere
A simulation of GDPR on Social Media
Viral Sphere is a short simulative game, to be used in school to
foster a dialogue on GDPR laws and risks with sharing content online
between teachers and students. Viral Sphere was developed within an
Erasmus+ project named Spadatas, aimed at contributing to raising an
awareness about GDPR in schools and at gaining an understanding about
these new regulations have affected students and teachers in schools,
in relation to the increasing digitization of schools and the online
presence of primary and sencondary school pupils.

Instructions:
When starting the game a short introduction will appear, explaining
about the game focus on GDPR and its narrative.
The game starts with showing our main character, 16-years old Sam getting
started on Social Media and we see her connecting to her first friends.
To continue in the game, you need to click on the big esclamation point.
After your click you will be able to see the conversation going on between
Sam and her friends on the Social Media platform.
The game is trying to simulate social interaction on Social Media
to foster awareness and reflections on GDPR:
- Communicating and sharing content with friends;
- How the content is being shared outside of our control;
- How the shared content can be become visible to unknown people
and be misunderstood leading to unexpected conflicts.
As you play, you will be presented with posts addressed to Sam,
and you will have to decide if you wish to post, delete them or
decide later. Once a post is shared it cannot be ”unshared” and
you will see the post appearing on the panel on the left and
the reactions of other people seeing the post.
When reaching the end of the game a low-battery signal appear
suggesting this is what wil go on and on on Social Media
and it is time for a break ;)
Thank you for trying our game
